Beyond the sewer

Much of Rio Rancho is on city sewer, but large areas of the outer city — often called Rio Rancho Estates — are made up of lots without sewer service. New homes there need their own septic system.

Mesa conditions

  • Sandy soil on the mesa
  • Deeper groundwater than in the valley
  • Dirt roads and long access drives
  • Lots that may need wells too

Common questions

Is my Rio Rancho lot on sewer?

Check with the city utility. Many outer lots are not.

Is the mesa soil good for septic?

Often, but very sandy soil needs proper design.

Can you deliver a tank on a dirt road?

Usually — we plan access ahead.
