Keep the right water out

Household-type septic systems are designed for household wastewater. Manure, stall cleanings and wash-rack runoff should be handled separately — not sent into the septic system — and kept well away from wells and ditches.

Connect or separate

A barn restroom may connect to the house system if capacity and distance allow, or have its own small system where permitted. We'll lay out the options.

Sometimes, if capacity and distance allow.

Where should wash-rack water go?

Not into the septic system. It should be handled separately.
