Corrales-specific causes
- Cottonwood and elm roots in the trenches
- Irrigation water or roof runoff soaking the field
- Groundwater rising near the field in wet seasons
- Old fields undersized for the home
Before replacing
We rule out the tank, filter, baffles and lines first. A clogged filter or tipped distribution box can look like a failed field.

The new field
- Evaluate soil and groundwater in the new area
- Design — possibly shallower, or with advanced treatment
- Permit
- Install, inspect, backfill and grade
- Redirect runoff and irrigation away from the field
Common questions
Should I stop irrigating near my field?
Yes — keep irrigation and roof runoff off it.
Will the new field be in the same place?
It depends on soil, groundwater and setbacks.
How long does it take?
Usually a few days once permitted.
